Coverage: Lichen Survey of Exmoor woodlands in 1987-1988
Survey Methods: Woodlands were selected from survey data and aerial photographs. Of 679 woodlands greater than 1 hectare, 109 were selected for survey. Peterken's woodland classification system was used to identify sites with ancient woodland interest.
Purpose: To protect the woodlands of high Lichen interest and encourage sympathetic management.
Commissioned By: The Somerset Trust for Nature Conservation
Potential: A basis for the identification of woodlands of Lichenological interest that need further work.
Limits: By using previous survey data some valuable sites may have been missed.
