DataSet Name: A study of the Quantock Heathland
Coverage: The Quantocks, Somerset
Survey Methods: Aerial photos have been used to map the vegetation, the extent of the medieval ridge and furrow and compare the vegetation between aerial photos from January 1947 and August 1981.
Purpose: To establish the extent of changes in Heath composition, map vegetation and identify the faults with present management and propose a scheme of management by which grazing and conservation interests will be safeguarded.
Commissioned By: Somerset Trust for Nature Conservation.
Potential: To continue to monitor future changes and improve the existing diversity of heath types
Limits: It is not possible to identify changes in proportion of Ulex - Erica and Calluna as the species appear much the same in the aerial photograph.

Quality Controls: Permanent Quadrats were set up to ensure that repeat survey results are accurate.
