Monthly session: Introduction to SERC and recording (free session 1 – 2 hours)  Next session – Tuesday 30th January  1-3 p.m

Held at our office in Taunton, SERC will be holding a session to run through the basics of recording, so come and meet the SERC Team and have a short walk to the river learning more about recording various species, including where to look and how to work out a grid reference. You can learn about the online database for recording your sightings.

We are planning holding these slots monthly throughout the year. Alternatively, we are happy to talk you through this over the phone or for you to pop into the office at a convenient time.

Winter Tree Identification workshop   – Sunday 25th February 2018 – £40.00 per person

It’s a lovely time of year to wrap up warm and get out for a walk in the countryside, but do you find it frustrating that all the trees and shrubs that you find easily recognisable in the summer are now mystifying?

Come along to our Winter Tree Identification day and we will solve this mystery with you!

You will learn how to recognise our native trees and shrubs from their buds, twigs and silhouettes – plus the most common non-native species too.

The workshop includes working through keys to help in understanding variation between different species. We will start indoors with some samples of twigs, and then we’ll go outside to practise and look at tree silhouettes.
