Data Services

SERC is a resource for the public as well as partners and commercial clients. The data enquiries service provides access to species records, habitat and geological data, and details of designated sites.

Organisations entering into service level agreements with SERC are provided with enhanced access to datasets and services tailored to met their requirements. We also provide support to individuals and groups who submit data to us or wish to do so.

Other Ecological Services

SERC has a lead role in biodiversity strategy for the county, through the development of the local biodiversity action plans and the local sites system, and the monitoring of Somerset’s key species and habitats.

Data Management Products

Taking an innovative approach to data management SERC has designed tailor-made GIS-based products that maximise the potential of biological data to inform decision-making, such as the Integrated Habitat System, and the automated search tool BioPlan.

Collaboration with Somerset County Council has enabled Habitat Suitability Indices, used to predict impacts on biodiversity, to be adapted for use in Somerset and the development of Somerset Econet.
