Document Search

SERC holds over 500 documents related to Somerset's natural environment. You can find out about these documents by searching this index database. If you are interested in viewing any of the documents, you will normally need to visit SERC at Wellington. Please phone or e-mail in advance of your visit.

You may enter one or more words into the search field below. Do not use punctuation, just spaces between words. The search engine will identify documents that contain ALL specified words. The result of your search will be a list of these documents.

Keyword Search

The search engine is looking through the following fields:-

  • AUTHOR (e.g. Mr Ian Frederick Jones = Jones or Jones, I.F.)
  • TITLE (Specific sites, species etc.)
  • YEAR (Last publication/production date e.g. 2003)
  • TYPE OF DOCUMENT (survey, book, project report, annual report etc.)
  • KEYWORD (There are five keyword categories:- Habitats, Taxa, Status, Location, and Other. Both taxa and location are comprehensively listed. For example, pipistrelle may be found under animals, mammals, bats, or pipistrelle. Also, Daggs Lane may be found under Mendip, Meare, or Daggs Lane)

You may therefore look for all habitat survey documents in Mendip by typing in: mendip habitat survey

Search Tips
  • Use plurals for habitats and taxa (e.g. grasslands and dormice).
  • Use English group names for taxa (e.g. mammals or bats).
  • Where applicable use acronyms with no punctuation (e.g. EN for English Nature or LP for Legally Protected or NVC for National Vegetation Classification).
  • If your first search attempt failed try a slightly different word (i.e. hedgerows not hedges).
