Every record counts. At SERC, we are interested in all sightings—don’t assume we already know! While records of rarities aid conservation, data on widespread species is equally vital for plotting local and national distributions and detecting trends.
Whether it’s a sighting in your garden or a discovery while out and about, we want to hear about it.
1. For Individual Sightings:
Use our Online Recording System (ORS) using the link below. A help guide can be found here.
By creating an account, you maintain full control over your data. You can:
- Edit or delete your records at any time.
- View your sightings on an interactive map.
- Track your data through our “traffic light” verification system to see when your record goes live.
Once approved, your records provide vital, up-to-date evidence for ecologists, consultancies, and developers.
2. For Large Datasets:
If you have ecological reports, bioblitz results, or large spreadsheets, you don’t need to enter them individually. Simply download our Excel Spreadsheet Template, add your data and email it to SercRecords@somerc.com.
No matter your skill level, check out our Help with Species Identification page for more tips. If you have questions about submitting data email us—we’re happy to help!
